Weekly Update – June 21, 2011
De-duping project
The Evergreen Indiana community is busy serving patrons with programs such as summer reading during the summer months so what better time to merge catalog records and streamline the Evergreen Indiana catalog? From July 1-4, a de-duping script will run on the production servers, merging similar bibliographic records in the Evergreen Indiana catalog. A full cataloging freeze will be in place from June 30 to July 5 to accommodate this process. Please do not add holdings or create original catalog records during that time. After the de-duping script runs, we will have merged 1.2 million records in the catalog! Your patrons will be pleased to find the item they are looking for by clicking on ONE bibliographic record instead of wading through a list of similar items.
Thank you to the cataloging committee whose expertise we’ve relied on throughout the two test de-dups. Please stay tuned to the cataloging listserv for tips from the cataloging committee regarding the de-duping script.
And as always, thanks to the Evergreen Indiana community for your cooperation.
