April 11, 2022

Indiana Evergreeners,

Spring has sprung, and we’re gearing up for all that the warmer months entail.  This update includes several reminders.  A separate list of upcoming events and important dates will come later in the week.  You can also check out the calendar at https://evergreenindiana.org.

Executive Committee Meeting

Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.

State Library Closed – Good Friday

The Indiana State Library will be closed on Friday, April 15, and there will be no InfoExpress Courier Service on this day.  Evergreen Indiana administrative and support staff will be available on a significantly limited basis, and will respond after the weekend to any helpdesk issues not related to system outage.

Upcoming Cataloging Deduplication and Freeze

A scheduled deduplication of the Evergreen Indiana catalog will begin in the early hours of Friday, April 15.  During a deduplication process, bibliographic records are merged based on matching criteria.  This provides for more efficient searching, more useful search results, and a larger pool of available copies for such things as title and meta holds.

During the deduplication, there will be a complete freeze on all cataloging.  When the process has completed, the “all clear” will go out via the Cataloging Listserv, and the freeze will be lifted.  We anticipate being able to send out this notification at some point on Sunday afternoon.

Administrative Team Transition

Keith Kaffenberger has stepped down as the Coordinator for the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium.  Ruth Frasur (that’s me) will be filling the role of interim coordinator.  Jeremy Murray is the interim Evergreen Indiana system administrator and has been working closely with Bob Jackson.  We anticipate several announcements in the coming weeks and months and will keep you apprised of changes and additions to the administrative team.  In the meantime, we continue to receive support from Equinox Open Library Initiative.
