April 4, 2022

Good afternoon, Indiana Evergreeners.  The sun is out in Indianapolis and the breeze isn’t threatening hypothermia (today).  This update is “action packed” so please read the subheadings and then see if further investigation is warranted.

Welcome to Porter County Public Library System!

Porter County Public Library System launched on March 22 as the 126th and newest public library member of the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium.  PCPLS includes five branch libraries in Northwest Indiana expanding the EILC by approximately 90 staff members, 55k cardholders, 260K bibliographic records, and 440K holdings.  A huge shortcode shoutout of gratitude to our magnificent volunteers from NBLCO, NWTCO, STLIB, WLAFY, MONON, WHTNG, and KDLVL for the massive assists for go-live.  And, we’d be egregiously remiss if we didn’t also applaud the invaluable migration support by the Equinox Open Library Initiative.

PCPLS Transitting DVDs

Porter County Public Library has joined the EILC with the intent to transit their videodiscs.  As they gear up to share their materials with libraries outside of their system, however, it seems a few DVDs might have transitted without their cases being unlocked.  If your library received one of these locked DVD cases, please do not attempt to force the lock with a letter opener or scissors (or whatever other prying implement you’ve found).  These cases can be opened undamaged with a strong magnet or returned to PCPLS.  Please practice proper hold retargeting procedures if you choose to send the items back unopened.

A HUGE “Thank You” and “Every Good Vibe” to Keith Kaffenberger

We are sad to see Keith leave the Evergreen Indiana administrative team and wish him all the best things for his future.  Keith’s last day will be Friday, April 8, so please reach out with your own well wishes if you’re so inclined.

Upcoming Cataloging Deduplication and Freeze

You might have noticed.  We haven’t deduplicated the catalog in awhile.  The time has come for some cleanup following the migration of bibliographic records from both Rushville and Porter County libraries.  The planned dedupe is scheduled to begin the morning of Friday, April 15 and will run over the holiday  weekend.

Indiana Digital Library Records

All eIDC and other legacy Overdrive records have been removed from the Evergreen catalog.  Our intrepid Bob Jackson has finished importing the initial batch of IDL records and biweekly updates have resumed.

The 2022 Evergreen International Conference will once more be held virtually via the Hop-in platform.  Applications for Registration Scholarships are being accepted through Monday, May 2.  All staff of Evergreen Indiana member libraries are invited to apply for these scholarships using the linked form here.

Have a great rest of your Monday,
