Weekly Update – April 20, 2011

Evergreen Indiana calendar

There is a new calendar widget in the right column of the Evergreen Indiana blog. This calendar sets important dates in the world of Evergreen Indiana including migrations, catalog freezes, committee meetings, conferences, etc. Evergreen Indiana training and roundtables will continue to be scheduled and managed through the Web Junction Indiana Schedule of Events for Indiana Libraries. The goal of the Evergreen Indiana calendar is to set important dates for the system that the community can plan for and work around if necessary. Feel free to email Shauna Borger with additions or edits to the calendar (sborger@library.in.gov).

Cataloging roundtable presentation

Two cataloging roundtable sessions were taught by members of the cataloging committee in West Lafayette and North Vernon. The presentation is available at ISL Evergreen Indiana -> Staff training documents -> Evergreen Indiana Cataloging Roundtable: Original Cataloging (April 13, 2011).pdf

Troubleshooting

There are several ways in which to identify and understand problems you may experience using the Evergreen Indiana staff client:

  1. First, don’t panic! The issue may have already been discussed and resolved in the Evergreen Indiana Weekly Update. Make sure to read the weekly updates and have your staff do the same.
  2. Keep up-to-date on the listservs. Other libraries often post the latest issues that they’ve been experiencing and you may find that the problem you are experiencing has already been discussed. Feel free to communicate with other libraries in an attempt to identify and understand your own system issues.
  3. Send in a Helpdesk ticket:
  • If you have any questions – policy or technical, send a helpdesk ticket via the splash screen of the Evergreen Indiana staff client.
  • Try to include the most information on the issue that is possible. Example: Patron barcodes, item barcodes, URLs, or tab name (i.e. Patron Search).
  • You can also send in an Evergreen Helpdesk ticket in a browser by clicking on the url below:

Missing MARC fields

Because of the upgrade and regarding record summary data, the following MARC fields are not available: 651, 49X and 8XX. Jason Boyer and staff at the ISL are working on adding them now that the system is stable. They will also be adding volume holds for magazines.

Fines

Several libraries reported having 10 cent overdue fines instead of the standard 25 cents. Those 10 cent fines that had already been paid were not modified, but those that hadn’t been paid have been amended to the proper 25 cent per day fine rule in accordance with the Evergreen Indiana Circulation Policy.

In total, there were approximately 300 billings that were modified. This impacts a small number of transactions that were checked out between 3/20/2011 and approximately 3/25/2011.

If this causes any inconvenience to your patrons the library does always reserve the right to waive fines on items they circulated in accordance with any local policies and regulations.
