Weekly Update—August 26, 2014
Keeping “New” Fresh
The automated conversion of “new” materials to standard circulation modifiers will be implemented by the end of the week. This only affects materials with a “new” circulation modifier type after 12 months of item ownership. The following table shows the expected conversions:
Originally Cataloged as: | Converted to: |
book new | book |
dvd new | dvd |
dvd new r-rated | dvd r-rated |
software gaming new | software gaming |
video new | video |
video new r-rated | video r-rated |
Please let us know if you find materials in your collection that exceed the 1 year ownership mark which are not converting beginning next week. Libraries are encouraged to continue updating materials earlier as appropriate locally.
Easing Patron Record Clean-ups
We recently received a series of helpdesk tickets where users were unable to delete long-expired patron accounts. After some research, we discovered an old bug had left many accounts with open transactions even after the items were checked in and bills paid. We have run a clean-up which closed all those old transactions. For those interested in the numbers, that affected almost 120,000 user accounts. If you are locally purging long-expired accounts, you should have an easier time of it!
It’s almost time to chat!
The regional roundtables are rapidly approaching; we’ll kick the first meeting off in Westfield on September 8th. Dedicated discussion topics so far include offering DVD transits, the ethics and local policy audit, and recent consortium policy updates and changes. We encourage you to submit requests for inclusion on the agendas or bring your ideas for other updates, changes, and improvements for on-the fly discussion. Frontline staff are encouraged to participate and share their perspectives!
Space is limited, so please register if you would like to participate. Participants will receive recommendations for area restaurants if you wish to continue community building over a meal after the scheduled meeting!
