Weekly Update – August 21, 2012
Evergreen 2.2 New Features
As was previously stated, we will be upgrading to Evergreen 2.2 beginning at (8PM) Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16 at (8PM). Instructions for upgrade weekend can be found here and in the Weekly Update blog entry – August 7. Many great new features have been approved for usage in Evergreen 2.2 and will be highlighted in the Weekly Update blog each week (See Redesigned OPAC Interface below).
Redesigned OPAC Interface
The basic catalog has been replaced by the Template Toolkit OPAC (TPAC). Compared to the traditional catalog (JSPAC), TPAC uses far fewer network calls for each page, resulting in faster loading pages. TPAC is built on the Template Toolkit language to enable simple but powerful customization, and supports integrated gettext-based translation for strings—including placeholders and quantities—for better internationalization support.
Additionally, mobile browsers will see increased performance and functionality via the new OPAC.
New OPAC features for patrons include:
• A preferred search location. Unlike the default search library in the previous OPAC, this setting will also control which copies display first in search results and record detail screens.
• A preferred pickup location for holds.
• Ability to keep a history of borrowed items, and see them as such in search results (Opt-in)
• The ability to keep a history of holds. (Opt-in)
• The autocomplete feature will attempt to suggest search terms based on your partial entry, similar to popular search engines.
eIndiana Digital Consortium Conference Call
A conference call in which any member of the eIndiana Digital OverDrive Consortium may participate is being offered on Wednesday, August 22 @ 1pm EST. The conference call is designed as an intro class to go over some of the policies of the eIndiana consortium, discuss the new programs such as WIN, and go over the quick reference guide.
The call is designed for those who are new to the consortium, have general questions and/or have experienced staff turnover. Get in touch with the Evergreen Indiana Coordinator for the phone number and materials that will be discussed on the call.
Peabody Public Library migration date
We are very excited to announce that Peabody Public Library will join the consortium on October 16th as the 100th library in Evergreen Indiana! It certainly has been an exciting journey we have all taken, starting in 2008 with our first library, Hussey Mayfield Memorial Public Library, and growing to be the largest public library catalog in the state of Indiana. As a leader in the international Evergreen community, we hosted the very successful 2012 Evergreen International Conference in Indianapolis at the end of April. Thank you all for your continued cooperation and enthusiasm as we complete another exciting milestone!
Modified Cataloging Freeze
A modified catalog freeze will be in place from Friday, October 12, 2012 AM to Tuesday, October 16, 2012 AM or until the announcement on the listservs that the freeze has ended.
During a modified catalog freeze. . .
DO NOT import, edit, delete or create new bibliographic records.
DO attach holdings and edit holdings.
