Weekly Update — October 20, 2015
2015 Regional Roundtable Wrap-up
The Southeast Regional Roundtable met at Franklin County Library District’s Brookville Branch on October 15, 2015. 33 participants representing 14 library systems were in attendance.
The Northeast Regional Roundtable met at Peabody Public Library on October 16, 2015. 31 participants represented 15 libraries from the region.
Our thanks go out once more to all of our hosting libraries for the generous use of their space and hospitality. We very much value the opportunity to gather your feedback as we move forward with considering and implementing all of our many projects! Please continue to reach out to the ISL team and the committees in the coming months. As a quick review, these were the topics and issues that were reviewed with the feedback received:
Pest Policy/Procedures: Libraries would like to see this be both comprehensive and simple for staff to learn. The general mood was that prevention is key, and most libraries were comfortable with the idea of acquiring an oven for dealing with certain pests. There will probably be a formal presentation of the finalized materials next spring either as a roundtable or conference session.
eIndiana Updates: The planned integration of eIDC records into the Evergreen Indiana catalog with sample record views was demonstrated. The overall feedback was that participating libraries were pleased to finally see this content live. Student card access was discussed. Feedback from the first three roundtables was included in the packet that the eIndiana Advisory Committee used to make their determination. We collected additional feedback at the final 2 roundtables for consideration at the December meeting. Overall, participating libraries indicated the benefits far outweighed the negatives for allowing access.
Transits: We continue to search for the perfect balance between available resources and protecting transit materials. Please continue sharing your ideas! We are working on an update for the library shortnames to ensure more distinctiveness moving forward. Proposed names will be released later this fall. The DVD transit pilot continues to be of interest to several libraries and will probably begin in 2016 on a limited basis.
Age Protection: The final 2 roundtables were able to weigh in in-person on the discussion surrounding age protection options. Most libraries are considering experimenting with some portion of their collection. We’ll gather results in the coming months to share!
Policy Updates: We reviewed the implementation of the 2016 membership fee and projected budget. We also discussed the new Alternate ID for Circulation policy.
SRCS: Expanded options for resource sharing are ahead! Please watch for dedicated presentations this fall as we discuss how Evergreen Indiana may be involved in this state-wide effort to offer patron-driven ILL.
