Setting up Self-Check interface

Permissions: Local Administration (workstation registration, print templates)

LINK: https://evergreen.lib.in.us/eg2/staff/selfcheck #

Evergreen’s built-in self-check interface runs through a web browser, so it can be set up on an ordinary workstation in kiosk mode at or near the circulation desk. This also works with third party self check machines.

What you will need #

  • Workstation (with monitor, keyboard, and mouse)
  • Receipt printer
  • Barcode scanner
  • If your library uses RFID tags or magnetic tattle-strips, you will need a third party device to disable them upon checkout.
  • If your library uses locking DVD cases, you will need to determine the process on how to unlock the cases prior to self check out.

Initial set up #

  1. Go to https://evergreen.lib.in.us/eg2/staff/selfcheck
  2. Click on Manage Workstations to set up a self-check workstation.
    • This should open in a new tab. Follow the same process as setting up a staff workstation, but give it a name that indicates that it is a self-check.
    • If the machine has multiple workstations configured, be sure to set the self-check as the default.
  3. Close the tab and return to the Self-Checkout Staff Login page.
    • You may need to refresh the page to see the workstation dropdown.
  4. Set this as the default URL for the browser and/or in your kiosk settings, depending on your local configuration.

Printing #

You will need to install your receipt printer’s driver. In your browser, be sure the print settings are set to the correct paper (roll) size, be sure your margins are set to zero, and turn off headers and footers.

If you wish to auto-print to the receipt printer without prompting the patron with the print dialog box, you can enable silent printing in the browser.

Templates #

Receipt templates can be found via menus Administration > Local Administration > Print Templates (you will need LocalAdmin permissions to clone these templates).

Daily Set Up #

  1. Log in with appropriate staff circulation account (you may wish to have one specifically for self check)
  2. Make sure the self check workstation is selected in the Workstation dropdown.

Once logged in, the patron will be able to begin the checkout process.

See **link** for instructions on how the patron side of the self-check interface works.
