In Evergreen, there is a patron search function that allows us to search various areas of a patron’s account. This is especially useful if the patron forgot their library card and you are able to look them up in the database with an alternate form of identification.
Accessing patron search #
Patron search is accessible via the top navigation menu Search > Search for Patrons as well as Search for Patron by Name on the home page.
When you first open patron search, there are only four (4) visible search types you can include:
- Last name
- First name
- Middle name
- Name keywords
The down arrow to the right of the Search button will open up more options. This button is sticky, which means the extra field options will stay visible until you press the button again.
The additional fields allow you to search by:
- Library card barcode
- Holds alias
- Username
- Identification (DLN, e.g.)
- Phone number
- Street 1
- Street 2
- City
- State
- Post Code
- Profile Group (main permission profile group)
- Library selector (a patron’s home library)
- Parent/Guardian (name)
- DOB Year
- DOB Month
- DOB Day
- Database ID (really only used by the EILC Admin team)
Tips for searching #
- Search one field or combine fields for more precise results.
- Truncate search terms for more search results.
- Search ignores punctuation such as diacritics, apostrophes, hyphens and commas.
- Searching by Date of Birth: Year searches are “contains” searches. E.g. year “15” matches 2015, 1915, 1599, etc. For exact matches use the full 4-digit year. Day and month values are exact matches. E.g. month “1” (or “01”) matches January, “12” matches December.
